As a young boy growing up in northern Minnesota, I was surrounded by family who had a strong work ethic—and even stronger principles. From a young age I was required to work at the family-owned coffee processing and distribution company. It was extremely important to my family that I didn’t just complete a list of tasks, but that I understood how the business worked. Business and finance were always being discussed, and I soaked in all the information I could. I remember going with my grandfather, Arvid Peterson, to the local brokerage office in Duluth, Minnesota, to watch the ticker tape and check his stocks. Those early life lessons helped shape me into who I am today, and set me on the first steps down the path toward my lifelong career.
First Career Steps
I graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota with a BS in American History and Political Science. Then I went on to earn my MA in American History from Indiana University in Bloomington. In 1987, I went to work for a national wirehouse and took to the industry very well. My extensive knowledge of American History gives me a unique perspective on the financial market’s ups and downs, so I can better serve my clients.
I experienced a great deal of success during my time with Edward Jones, but I began to feel I wasn’t able to do the best job for clients because the firm had their proprietary funds and restricted what their brokers could and could not do. In 2004, I left to form my own independent firm, Peterson Wealth Management, where I could truly put the clients’ interests first.
My Career Today
As principal and founder of Peterson Wealth Management, I get to spend my days doing what I love—guiding clients through uncertainty and fear, to a financial future they’ve only dreamed of. I use my background to construct investment models and tailor them to an individual client’s investment objectives, time frames, and goals.
